As a further description, Dhyani Simonini writes

The Yogaville Community Association, or YCA, was founded to support the growth and development of the Yogaville community both in and around Sri Swami Satchidananda’s Integral Yoga Ashram and international headquarters. The YCA aims to benefit all spiritual seekers who wish to participate in building the dream outlined by Sri Gurudev in the booklet “Heaven on Earth–My Vision of Yogaville” (Integral Yoga Publications 2004). The organization was officially incorporated in May 2007 as a non-profit organization and achieved its tax-exempt status shortly afterward.

The YCA is governed by a Village Council consisting of elected officers and district representatives. Much like townships which have a “ward” set-up of governance by districts, the early YCA organizers decided to divide the Yogaville area into districts based on geography and to have the sangha members in each district elect a representative to Council, not only to broaden the input of various points of view, but also to give residents early familiarity with the idea of a town council with various areas being represented by elected officials and a “town manager” (which YCA calls the Council Administrator.”) This prepares the sangha for the fact that Yogaville has been designated as a “growth area” by Buckingham County Board of Supervisors with the expectation that there will eventually be an actual town here as well as the current designation of Yogaville as a geographical destination.

One of the on-going priorities of all the area sangha is to have a community center, and a fund has been established with that goal in mind. Another important goal was developed in answer to local concern that some residents of the community still experience a sense of isolation and a need for more communication and interaction with other sangha members. A “Pod System” was developed so that there would be several on-going support groups for all who desired to join. The theory is that an original pod would be started to experience the process of coming into unity and acceptance of diversity of opinions. Those members then would become facilitators for more pods to be started until everyone who desired a close sangha discussion and support group would have an opportunity to be in a pod. Several pods are now in process.

Besides the activity of pod membership, many other activities have been sponsored by the YCA. Some examples include informational workshops on such topics as end-of-life issues, on-going classes in such things as various styles of dance, maypole events, river tubing events, Halloween Trunk-or-Treat events, and bringing spiritual teachers of the various faiths represented in our yantra to the “village” for talks and celebrations with our sangha members. The Village Council has been very busy in its brief career organizing events and activities to foster the experience of a truly nurturing and caring community.

The YCA welcomes new members. There is a lifetime membership fee of twenty-seven dollars and a six months residency requirement before running for offices. The council is very flexible in taking people’s challenges under consideration and has in the past even been able to locate sponsors for the membership fee if the applicant desired to become a member and was not able to meet the financial requirement. We encourage all those who wish to help build community to join us and bring your ideas and enthusiasm to the table. Jai, Yogaville sangha.
